Yes the rumors are true, on August 1st Foxfire will be going No Smoking.
In case there is anyone in North Carolina that is not aware of it; on May 29, 2009 Governor Beverly Perdue signed into law a smoking ban. The law directly prohibits smoking under the roof of many public buildings including those that have a restaurant
or bar. The law goes into effect on January 2, 2010, and does apply to Foxfire Lanes. It includes the entire structure, including the front porch. The law includes fines for both business owners, and patrons that do not adhere to this law.
This brings us to how Foxfire will handle the transition. Because of the nature of our business, and the bowling seasons it will be necessary for us to prohibit smoking starting August 1st. I understand that some smokers would like to wait until the law mandates it in January, but to do so would mean that we would not only lose smokers who may not join leagues because of the known midseason law change, we would also lose the opportunity to market to those that were previously prevented from bowling due to smoke issues.
After much consideration; rather than trying to implement some interim rules, and then making them stronger when the law kicks in, we are going to implement the law as written starting August 1st. I understand that others may have different opinions, and I can certainly understand that, but given the circumstances I will have to act as I see fit.
Although I am not a smoker, I do have some sympathy for those who are dealing with this encroachment into their liberties. Regardless of my sympathies; I do hope for the double positive that many may give up the habit, while having the added benefit of depriving the bureaucrats of the tax revenue that supports their nasty spending habit.
Thank you for your time, and consideration. If you have any comments, or questions please feel free to speak to me, or e-mail me at FoxfDan@aol.com
